* The year 2025 is cumulative from the beginning of the year including at the moment the data for January to December. Water traffic accident:
An accident caused by the equipment, use or operation of a watercraft that takes place in a water area and results in personal injuries or fatalities, damage to property or the environment or rescue operations.
Recreational boating accident:
A water traffic accident that only involves vessels in leisure or recreational use.
Alcohol as cause of accident:
An accident where, at the time of the incident, the blood alcohol level of the operator of a recreational craft has been found to be or suspected on strong grounds to be at least 1.0 per mille, which is the limit for waterway traffic intoxication. A blood alcohol level of under 1.0 per mille can also be registered as the cause of the accident if alcohol is seen as having contributed to the accident. When it comes to fatalities, the final information on alcohol as a contributing factor comes from the material on cause of death. In other than fatal accidents, the alcohol data is incomplete, as the information cannot be found in the source material of the statistics.
