Water traffic accident:
An accident caused by the equipment, use or operation of a watercraft that takes place in a water area and results in personal injuries or fatalities, damage to property or the environment or rescue operations. Recreational boating accident:
A water traffic accident that only involves vessels in leisure or recreational use. Merchant shipping accident:
A water traffic accident that involves at least one vessel in commercial traffic and has been reported to the authorities in accordance with the obligations laid down in the Maritime Act. The number includes accidents involving Finnish and foreign vessels in Finnish territorial waters and accidents involving Finnish vessels abroad. Other commercial water traffic:
A water traffic accident that involves at least one vessel in commercial traffic but has not been reported to the authorities.
